Our approach to the discipline is aligned with other sciences and anchored in rational discourse and empirical research methods, with the goal of understanding the biological, developmental, sociocultural, and individual aspects of behavior to reduce human pain and suffering, redress social injustice, and enrich the human condition. Our students graduate with the knowledge, skills, and experience to excel in graduate study or in a wide variety of careers, from human services to research, business, government, education, and many others. Contact Psychology Department Science Complex 107A 401.865.2435 additional contacts DEGREE PROGRAM Bachelor of Arts in Psychology Students majoring in psychology complete 12 psychology courses (39 credits) that together provide foundational knowledge, as well as varied breadth and depth of study in the student’s areas of interest. Introduction to Psychology and Research Design & Statistical Analysis I and II make up the foundational courses. Students then choose at least one course from each of four domains: Understanding Individuals, Understanding Biological Processes, Understanding Social and Cultural Contexts, and Understanding Developmental Processes. The curriculum is rounded out with a seminar course, an advanced laboratory course, and three electives. Areas like biopsychology and behavioral neuroscience, clinical neuropsychology, forensic psychology, clinical psychology, developmental psychopathology, behavior therapy, social psychology, health psychology, cognitive psychology, Freudian psychoanalysis, and child development.
